About the Illustrator:
George Herriman (1880-1944) was born in New Orleans and later moved with his family to California in pursuit of greater economic opportunities. He began his career as an illustrator at the Los Angeles Herald at the age of 17. After working in New York for a number of years, Herriman returned to California to try his hand at creating comic strips for newspapers. Herriman’s creation “Krazy Kat” was by far his most popular comic strip and alleged to be one of William Randolph Hearst’s favorites.
